Tips for Finding a Christmas Tree that Complements Your Décor

Whether you’re a first-time homeowner spending this holiday season in your new home, or you’re an empty nester preparing for family to visit, getting out your totes of holiday decorations and setting everything up is always the most wonderful time of the year. From hanging up stockings to setting your holiday table, you want to make sure you have a cohesive design that perfectly complements your home and the decor you have. As the focal point of the room, finding the right Christmas Tree is key to adding that perfect final touch.

5 Tips to help you find the perfect Christmas Tree

  1. Decide if you want a real tree or an artificial one. Depending on who you ask, there’s only one right answer to this question. But, there are pros and cons to both. It’s no secret that having a real tree takes more work than having an artificial one, but there are some homes where it’s not considered Christmas until you go out and find the perfect one. If you’re looking for a more traditional tree, real is the way to go. But if you have a specific vision in mind, it could be best to go the artificial route.
  2. Before purchasing, choose where the tree will go. You’ll want to avoid placing your tree anywhere near a heat source (like a fireplace, heating vent, or radiator) and keep it away from high traffic areas. The last thing you need is for somebody to trip on a light cord or accidentally bump into the tree and knock it over.
  3. Measure, measure, and re-measure. While it might make for a great story years down the line, it can only add unnecessary stress finding out that the tree you thought was perfect is too tall for your space. On the flip side, you don’t want to come home with a tree that’s so small it’s drowned by the space. Save yourself from a future headache by making sure you know exactly what size you need.
  4. Decide on a theme. Nobody can ever say there’s a shortage of holiday decorations. And it can be overwhelming standing in front of all the choices that your local stores offer. Start simple by choosing a color or two you like. From there you can decide on garland, ornaments, lights, and a topper!
  5. Decorate safely. Depending on the size of your tree, you’ll want to make sure you can easily and safely reach the top portion of your tree for ornaments and lights. When decorating this area, be sure to have somebody nearby who can help just in case anything goes awry. You’ll also want to consider any small children or pets when hanging delicate or easily breakable ornaments.
